NIHA – Middle East Technical University (METU) Joint or Dual Degree Program Initiative

The Netherlands Institute for Higher Education Ankara (NIHA) acts as a facilitator in the exchange and recruitment of students and supporting the cooperation between institutes of Higher and Vocational Education in the Netherlands and Turkey.

In the Joint Dual Degree Program Initiative, NIHA plays an intermediary role and brings together the Turkish and Dutch academia, in a broad sense, to enhance the research oriented cooperation activities between Turkey and the Netherlands. Accordingly, NIHA is leading the initiative to establish a dual degree program between METU and a Dutch university in the field of Social Policy. Expected results from this initiative are to provide international understanding, scholarly collaboration, cultural interaction and friendship by supporting educational, professional and cultural activities among faculty and students of the two countries. Thanks to the initiative, ultimate results can be summarized as: to introduce the idea to build joint programmes/activities in graduate research, teaching contemporary political, social, economic and cultural aspects of the Netherlands, Turkey and the European Integration; to initiate further discussion, debate and dissemination of information on these issues nationally and in the European context, and finally; to develop academic capacities and governance capabilities within the respective partner institutions to sustain these activities
